Nowadays, teens and young adults are more comfortable wearing what they want… It doesn’t matter if you’re a girl using boy’s clothes or if you’re boy wearing girl’s clothes. Although some of us think that way, it’s still a struggling battle showing this to other people. In that way is with excitiment that I show you how a 17 years old boy is literally defying gender norms.
Musician, actor and fashion model, Jaden Smith recently posted an image of himself on his Instagram with the simple caption “Just come here”. The son of Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith appears in the photo shirtless with a red flower tucked behind his ear, fingers that have blue-painted nails and wearing a skirt!
The photo is a shot for an upcoming photo shoot for Vogue Korea and it’s a success already! Although, this isn’t the first time Jaden is photographed in a skirt. Recently was announced that this boy became the new face of Louis Vuitoon’s Spring 2016. The collaboration was made public by creative director Nicolas Ghesquière that shared two preview images of Smith with some female models.
Jaden is known to redefine masculinity and has been seen wearing a dress to a prom and a flower crown to 2015’s Coachella. He also received praise from his internet followers and some media outlets, such as The Huffington Post who in 2015 praised him for being a black men who is trying to fight against gender norms.
In some interviews, Smith also shared that he really doesn’t care about what he wears and that he likes to wear clothes that he makes. Also the teen shared that he hopes to be an example to others to take a chance and be comfortable in whatever they want. “Stop being scared”, said Smith in an interview to GQ.
I have to say I’m really impressed with his example and I hope that more people see this as an opportunity to fight against gender roles and to wear/do whatever makes them comfortable. And as Christina Aguilera said “You’re beautiful no matter what they say!” I know I love to wear man’s clothes and I don’t really care as long as I’m happy!
